For wedding cakes (or cake orders over 100 servings), you may opt to schedule a design consultation appointment. This is an opportunity to sample several of my popular cake flavors and discuss the design of your special cake. To get the most out of your time, I ask that you come prepared with some knowledge of the cake designs that appeal to you. In addition to my own photo galleries, please take advantage of the links provided on the links page to browse through photo galleries on other sites for inspiration and ideas as well. The more informed you are, and the more you know about the kinds of cake designs that you like, the better I will be able to collaborate throughout the creative process. If you find a picture online, it can easily be emailed to me ahead of your appointment.
You can browse my gallery, the links on my links page, bridal magazines, or cake books for ideas, then email me pictures and I can replicate a cake or change it to suit your theme, or I can craft something completely unique to you. If a traditional wedding cake isn’t your speed, I can do decorative cupcakes on tiered stands, or my new trendy Wedding Cake Buffets! Prices vary based on design.
Inspiration can come from the tiniest detail about your event, from floral decor, to bridal attire, to the invitation design or the season of the wedding. Remember, your cake, like your wedding is a reflection of who you are as a couple. Your family heritage, how you met, what you like to do together, even how the groom proposed could contribute to the design of your cake.
These consultations are available by appointment only to ensure that your design time goes uninterrupted. This allows me to focus on creating the perfect cake for your wedding or large event. The appointment lasts about 30 - 45 minutes. If you should need to reschedule, or cancel, I ask that you contact me no later than 48 hours in advance. If you have a planning folder, have it available. I will draw inspiration from the attire, the floral, the ceremony and reception sites, and other details from your day. I've found cake designs in the most unlikely of places, so don't be afraid to bring in whatever you have!
You will have time to look through my recent cake designs and several cake catalogs for ideas on cake basics and to get a feel for the shape, layout, and other design features you like. If you have seen any cakes online or elsewhere, have pictures printed out for me to view or email them before the consultation. From there, I combine things from your wedding with elements from cakes that you've seen and liked to create an original design for your wedding cake. Your wedding is unique, your wedding cake should be one of a kind!
We'll determine the best size for your cake based on the number of guests, your budget and the look of the cakes that you like.
I understand how hectic planning a wedding can be. I also know that many brides plan their weddings while working or even living out of state. I can help you design your wedding cake all via the Internet through emails at your convenience. We can exchange emails back and forth to work out the details. This way you can save time and reply to me at whatever hour you find available! That simple! It's one of my little perks - your time is precious, and I'd like to help!
Surely one of the greatest pleasures of planning a wedding...sampling wedding cake.
During the initial email consultation, you can opt to schedule a formal tasting. Formal tastings are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays, at Noon, 1pm & 2pm. A current schedule will be emailed to you, if you choose to request a formal tasting.
Typically, you choose 4 cake and 4 filling/buttercream selections from the flavors list that you'd like to sample. Then, I bake each flavor you select and have the samples ready for you at the design/tasting appointment.
Formal Tastings are $40 for 4 combinations: 4 cake choices and 4 fillings/buttercreams. If you prefer to sample the cakes and fillings separately, I can prepare them to mix and match. Just be sure to let me know you want them prepared separately. I always provide Vanilla Buttercream for each tasting, so this does not need to be counted as a choice of filling/buttercream.
After a tasting, and upon placing your order for your wedding cake, a $20 refund will be credited toward your order.
Additional cake/buttercream combos are $7 each.
Don't need the formality and just want to taste the cakes?
Instead of a formal tasting, you may also opt to pick up samples at an agreed upon time and work on the design of your cake with me via email. Each sample is $5, and is a 2-layer 4 inch round cake. Maximum of 6 flavors please. This is a great way to sample your cakes with loved ones that may not be able to make an appointment time. For more information about Cake Sample Pick-up Events - simply let me know when you send in your contact form and I will send you the flyer for the next available pick-up event.
Cancellations for appointments
If you set up a tasting appointment and fail to show or cancel less than two days in advance, you will still owe the $40 tasting fee. If you set up another tasting appointment, you will be charged $40 for the second tasting without any refund. If you do not book another appointment, yet place an order, the $40 will be added to your total cake order.
Please understand the reason for my cancellation policy and the need to charge for my tastings. Each cake flavor you choose must be baked in a full layer to represent the proper consistency and quality of what your wedding cake will truly be. Each filling or buttercream is also made fresh to order so that you experience the same result as you will on your special day. This fresh baking of each cake flavor and filling adds to my costs. So I do not want to throw away the cake or the money if at all possible. Thank you for understanding.
Slowly (quality can't be rushed) your cake becomes a delicious reality. I limit the number of cakes that I'll take in any given week. They are baked fresh with pure ingredients.
The average decoration time on one of my wedding cakes is 15-36 hours! That doesn't include baking, or any of the frosting items made in advance (see below). Why so long? First of all, I do not have mass-produced stock designs, each cake is a unique creation. I meticulously copy lace and embroidery details onto the fondant with a stylus or pin prick technique. I custom match all colors to swatches supplied by my clients (no standard supermarket bakery mint greens or bubblegum pinks here). My cakes are often hand-painted or lustered.
The bow loops, sugar flowers and sugar paste details are all created in-house a week in advance of the wedding to ensure ample drying time. I can even make edible cake toppers.
Delivery and Set-up
Cakes are delivered to the reception/event site by Heavenly Confections staff. I stack the tiers as necessary on site and add the finishing touches.
